Ryan Coogler's Sinners has achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming only the sixth horror film in U.S. box office history to surpass $200 million domestically. Released on April 18, 2025, the film reached this benchmark in its fourth weekend, joining the ranks of classics like The Exorcist, Jaws, The Sixth Sense, It, and It Chapter Two .

Starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, Sinners is a period vampire thriller set in 1930s Mississippi. The narrative follows the brothers as they open a juke joint haunted by supernatural forces, blending elements of horror with historical drama .

Financially, the film has grossed over $223 million domestically and $69 million internationally, totaling approximately $292 million worldwide . This success positions Sinners as the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 in North America, trailing only A Minecraft Movie 

Notably, Sinners is the first original live-action film since 2013's Gravity to cross the $200 million mark domestically, highlighting a renewed audience appetite for original storytelling . Coogler's innovative approach extends beyond the screen; he secured a unique deal with Warner Bros. granting him ownership of the film after 25 years, aligning with the movie's themes of Black ownership and creative autonomy
